Live drawing at events: how does it work?
You’ve heard of live drawing at events, but how does it work?? Quick answer: I come along to your event, conference, or meeting with my trusty iPad in hand, ready to bring the day to life with graphic recording. Want more details of how it works on the day? Please continue…
The process
Throughout the day, I’m quietly listening, absorbing and summarising everything into visuals. To keep up with all the information is actually a great exercise in active listening! As people speak, I listen for themes or topics that people resonate with. I love it when a speaker gets an “mmm” and nods from the crowd - then I know it’s an excellent thing to include! People also naturally talk in stories and metaphors, which give me plenty of ideas to visualise the key points.
Real-time projection - or not!
One of the fun (and engaging) aspects of live illustration is projecting it onto screens for everyone at the event to witness as it unfolds. People love seeing their thoughts and contributions on the big screen! Having said that, some event organisers prefer to save it as a surprise for the end of the day - which is always a lovely moment (“oohs” and “aahs”). If you prefer, I can just send it to you directly afterwards, or project on the screen during breaks.
Post-event possibilities
Post-event, once everyone’s gone home, there are plenty of options to use your shiny new live illustration. You could share it on social media, with attendees, or we could work together to extract key points into spot illustrations for reports. These are just some ideas - but it’s flexible!
Mastered for creatives - live event time lapse video
Time-lapse videos
With each live illustration you’ll get a time lapse video. These videos serve as fantastic recaps that capture all the highlights of the day, without anyone having to wade through all their notes.
